On October 26, 2008 our
daughter Meghann Marie Smith was killed by a drunk driver.
The person that killed her was charged with Intoxicated
Manslaughter and Failure to Stop and Render Aid. Meghann
was 18 yrs old and a very sweet spirited person who touched
many lives with her smile and her desire to make others
happy. Meghann’s goal in life was to become a DPS Officer
and to get the drunks off the road after her father was the
victim of a hit and run drunk driver. We are carrying on
Meghann’s legacy “To Save Lives” by starting this DWI
Tracker Chapter.
There is no real justice for
the victims and their families and too many repeaters are on
the roads. The legal system is not working to stop DWI or
DUI and we don’t really see things changing. We started
this DWI Tracker Chapter in Montgomery, Texas and have
filled as a 501C non-profit and incorporated chapter. We
will operate by the gifts and donations of the public. If
you or your family have suffered at the hands of an impaired
driver I ask that you join with us to stop the drivers under
the influence before they take another life. MADD (a great
organization and should be commended) is reactive DWI
Tracker is proactive, working with law-enforcement to stop
impaired drivers.
We work as a deterrent by
driving on public streets and highways in the DWI Tracker
truck. By bringing a visual awareness to the public and
letting them know that “eyes of Texas are upon you!”
In the first five weeks we
followed 13 impaired drivers which law enforcement stopped
and took off the streets. There were also 3
public intoxications and one person behind the wheel
asleep. We also drove up on two separate impaired crashes. We are
definitely a deterrent and our goal is “To Save Lives”.
